Portugal – A Little Slice Of Paradise!

With some great travel deals being had on trips to Portugal, I decided to research more about this small country located in the southwestern corner of Europe.  In fact, my in-laws have a one month trip planned there for early 2008, so I’m doing some research to help them out!

Portugal is neighbored by Spain to the north and east, and the Atlantic on the south and west sides.

Portugal is so appealing because of its remarkable beaches bedecked with small cliffs and captivating grottoes.  Not only is the atmosphere charming, but Portugal offers amazing cuisine and a lovely southern European culture.

In addition to offering these delights, another benefit of Portugal is that it receives fewer tourists than other European destinations so you can rest assured that you’ll find affordable accommodations, restaurants and attractions.

The Faro area is in the south and is where Portugal’s largest airport is located.  Many travelers choose to stay in the Faro district with small beaches and inland attractions like medieval towns and beautiful old cathedrals. 

Another popular vacation spot is Albufeira featuring nearly 20 different beaches.  The bustling nightlife makes it a coveted vacation spot for those loving to dance the night away at the many discos, restaurants and bars.  For the sports minded tourist, Albufeira offers beautiful, yet challenging golf courses.

Another region to consider is the Portimao region that has recently soared in popularity.  Well to do tourists love the stylish Praia da Rocha beach town that boasts some of the most gorgeous beaches that stretch for what seems like miles and miles.  Picture calm turquoise waters and breathtaking vistas and you’ll get the idea.
