Hurricane Felix Takes Over Where Dean Left Off
After many countries weathered the Hurricane Dean troubles, Hurricane Felix is now causing havoc. On Monday, tens of thousands of people left low-lying areas on Central America’s Caribbean coast to avoid the torrential rains and gusting winds of the approaching Hurricane Felix.
Currently categorized as a Category 4 storm, on Monday it was moving towards Nicaragua and Honduras. Previously slated as a Category 5 storm, a Category 4 is still concerning as it is capable of extreme damage and severe flooding.
Belize is also anticipating the arrival of Hurricane Felix later this week. The Belizean Government has issued a hurricane watch for the entire country. Any tourists to the area are advised to monitor local and international weather reports and always follow the advice of the local authorities.
After reaching Belize, experts are predicting that the hurricane will follow a similar path as Hurricane Dean, meaning Jamaica and Mexico are being threatened.
Many airlines and travel agencies are trying to be as flexible as possible with their customers in light of the Hurricane Felix travel advisories.
If you have travel plans for Caribbean area, be sure to check with authorities to determine if it is still safe to travel. Should you have any concerns, contact your travel agent who can assist you.
