You Know You Need a Vacation When...
I started compiling this list as I felt my stress levels rising with the upcoming holidays and being incredibly busy at work. I hope it helps remind you as to ‘why you need a vacation!’
- You spend your time at home thinking about work and all that needs to get done.
- Your nightly dreams include your coworkers and projects you have on the go.
- Your tongue has a permanent indent from the number of times in the day you bite it to avoid calling coworkers names.
- You automatically wake up every morning early and start getting dressed for work – even on weekends.
- You start answering your phone at home with your standard work greeting.
- You start scheduling in time to talk with your spouse because you are both just so busy.
- The only time you spend with your kids is shuttling them to and from their activities.
- You start having nightmares that you are chained to your desk at work.
- You have dreams of frothy drinks with tiny umbrellas.

- Your hand has become permanently formed to the shape of your computer mouse.
- You can’t remember the last time you took a real vacation.
Vacations are a good thing! No matter how busy you are at work, it is important to schedule time off with friends and family to recharge your batteries. In fact, an annual vacation can cut the risk of heart disease in men by 30 percent and in women by 50%1.
If your company gives you a hard time about taking some time off be sure to tell them that the vast majority of people come back from their vacations feeling more productive and positive about their jobs. Take a vacation – you deserve it!
