What is Adventure Travel?

These days, it can be tough to gauge what exactly defines adventure travel.  With so many baby boomers trying new things during their vacations, many adventure travel packages don’t end up being all that adventurous!  Back in the day, adventure was defined by exploring uncharted waters and lands with hidden dangers!

Nowadays, there are all kinds of great vacations you can take that incorporate adventure travel of some sort.  Since everyone has a different comfort level, what is adventurous to one person may be ‘ho hum’ to the next.  Really, anything that takes you out of your normal travel behavior or comfort zone can be classified as an adventure!

Typically, you can safely assume that most adventure travel refers to white water rafting, bungee jumping, jet boating, and trekking, especially if these activities occur in a foreign country!

So, although most adventure travel is really a ‘prepackaged activity’ with a predictable outcome – it can still be great fun to get your adrenaline going.

I mean really, when was the last time you truly felt like you were getting out there and living your life to the fullest?  Adventure travel can give you the feeling that you learning more about what life has to offer!

When planning for adventure travel, it is important to research the company offering the ‘adventure’ and really understanding what exactly you are getting for your money. 

If you are investing considerably, in an adventure (say going on a wildlife safari) ask the tour operator if you can speak with or email others that have taken a similar trip.  It can be a great way to learn a little more and gain a great perspective about what to expect.

Adventure travel is something that every can enjoy, no matter what their danger tolerance level is.  Adding an adventure travel component to your vacation can be exciting and exhilarating and give you a truly special memory of your vacation.
