Travel Insurance Great Way To Protect Your Belongings

Did you know that new research shows that a fifth of tourist arrive at their vacation destinations to find their luggage missing?  If you have ever had your luggage missing, you know how frustrating it can be!  My neighbor went on a short ski trip this winter and their gear and skis never arrived.  They finally got it back on the last day of their trip!  Talk about a hassle as they spent hours of their precious vacation time trying to find skis, jackets and boots to fit three children and two adults!

The study further showed that 55 percent of luggage-less tourists had to wait more than 24 hours to have their bags returned by the airline.

Of course, losing your luggage is a scenario that causes increased travel stress because you spend the first few hours/days of your holiday replacing lost items instead of relaxing and enjoying your stay.  You may also stress about who is going to pay for the replacement items.

The best way to protect yourself is to purchase adequate travel insurance before you travel.  As long as you have a decent plan, losing a suitcase or two shouldn’t put you out of pocket for the replacement items.  To avoid heartache, do not travel with valuable or sentimental items.  If you can, keep these items at home, but if you must bring them, pack them in your carryon and be vigilant about never letting it out of your sight.

Can you believe that apparently over four percent of travelers place traveler’s checks or cash in their checked luggage?  Never, ever do that!

So, next time you travel, check your travel insurance policy to ensure it covers lost luggage as some travel insurers do not cover lost or stolen baggage as part of their standard plans.

Happy travels and I hope you are never one of the 20% who lose their luggage on any given travel day!
