Top Seven Paris Highlights
One of my favorite cities to visit is Paris. This unique city has so much to offer and I find that each time I visit (I’ve been eight times) I discover another aspect of the city to love. Here is a list of my seven favorite Paris highlights that I hope will inspire you to visit! Everyone needs to go to Paris at least once in his or her life!
- Musee de Louvre – Of course, you’ll want to see the Mona Lisa, but the world’s largest museum also contains one of the world’s most important collections of art and antiquities.
- Eiffel Tower – Yes, I know you’ve seen pictures, but visiting the real thing is far more exciting. An amazing six million visitors every year go to the top of this famous landmark to behold the breathtaking views.
- Notre Dame Cathedral – Completed in 1334, this Gothic cathedral is a repository for French art and history. Try to go on a Sunday afternoon when a free rehearsal of the great organ takes place.
- Arc de Triomphe – Did you know that this is actually Napoleon’s triumphal arc, celebrating battle victories? The Arc is located at the top of the Champs Elysee and is a must see for every visitor.
- Pantheon – The final resting place for the great citizens of the city is an interesting building to explore. You can visit the crypt, the dome galleries and the Tomb of Voltaire among others.
- Hotel des Invalides – This impressive building was constructed in between 1671-1676 as housing for wounded soldiers. There are still soldiers housed here - although at only around a dozen or so, it is far less than the 6,000 it contained when the building first opened.
- Centre Georges Pompidou – The Pompidou Centre is the home to the Paris Museum of Modern Art and the building itself is considered one of the world’s most famous pieces of modern architecture.
