Things You Must Do in Spain
I’m planning a trip to Spain in the coming months and have been doing a lot of research. After speaking to friends who’ve visited this fascinating country and after reading many guidebooks, I’ve come up with my top ten list of things that I want to do when I’m in Spain. Hope you enjoy it and it inspires you to start creating your own travel plans!
1. See Frank Gehry’s Amazing Architecture – I definitely plan to see the unbelievable Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, but Gehry’s has other unique examples like the huge copper fish on Barcelona beach or the conference and convention centre near Malaga Airport. I look forward to seeing these futuristic masterpieces.
2. Checking out the Alhambra in Granada. Apparently, the complex is vast and occupies a large portion of the city centre and you need a whole day to explore it. Described as a Moorish fortified palace, I cannot wait to find out more!
3. Taking Part in a Local Village Fiesta – The people of Spain love their local fiestas, and although they are usually religious based, they are also a lot of fun. Expect colorful processions and parties that go to the wee hours of the morning.
4. Going for Tapas! I look forward to this unique Spanish tradition of sitting in a local bar and eating tapas while having a delicious drink.
5. Enjoying the Quaint Cafes – Spain’s villages, cities and towns all have numerous cafes, just perfect for sitting outside, enjoying a delicious cup of coffee and people watching.
6. Visit Dali’s Museum – Salvadore Dali is one of the most beloved painters in the world and his museum is as surreal as the visions he has created.
7. Go Flamenco Dancing! – Apparently when in the South of Spain, you have to catch some of the heel tapping music known as Flamenco.
8. See The Spectacular Views At Ronda – Ronda is perched at the top of a huge cliff that you reach after driving through the Andalucian Mountains. There is a magnificent bridge spanning the gorge between the old and new towns. Ronda also has the oldest bullring in Spain along with roman baths.
9. Run With the Bulls – While I plan to let others run with the bulls, I would like to join in with the celebrations in Pamplona.
10. See the Best Football in Europe – Some argue that Madrid has one of the best football (that’s soccer for us Americans) teams in Europe and if I have an opportunity, I would love to see a game.
Hope you get a chance to visit the spectacular and thrilling county of Spain and take in some of these interesting sites and activities!
