Puttin’ On The Ritz in London
Let’s face it. Nothing beats a stay in a luxury hotel to make you feel extravagantly special. I recently stayed at The Ritz in London and was expecting something special and I definitely got it. This hotel puts new meaning into the words luxury and elegance.
When we arrived at the hotel, we were greeted at the door by a bellman who offered to take our bags and another who escorted us to the check in desk. The front counter staff was extremely friendly and helpful. It seemed that nothing would be too much trouble. In fact, I read somewhere that Caesar Ritz (founder of the chain) once told his staff over 100 years ago “Never say no when a client asks for something, even it is the moon.” That was definitely my experience at this hotel.
My expectations for the room were met as well. As I opened the door to my deluxe king room, I immediately found it to be elegantly appointed, yet comfortable and large. There was an overstuffed couch and loads of pillows on the bed (it just screamed to have you lay down on it!) The bathroom was gorgeous, definitely large by hotel standards, a well appointed with fluffy towels and first-rate amenities (got to love those miniature bottles of shampoo and lotion!) I almost forgot, the closet space was plentiful and the mini bar well stocked.
One of the great advantages of The Ritz London is its location. I was on the seventh floor and my room had beautiful large windows that provided a fantastic view of the city. I loved the décor of the room, completely befitting for The Ritz I felt. A gorgeous crystal chandelier complete with swags and drops was dramatically placed in the center of the room, and Victorian inspired lamps and stately Louis the XIV furniture completed the rest of the decor. If you were so inclined as to watch television, there was a modern flat screen TV.
Of course, the most important thing about a hotel room is the quality of sleep you get. I am happy to say, I slept like a baby. The mattress was pure luxury, and you can choose your pillow and you even have the option to have your pillow infused with the lovely scent of lavender to lull you to a peaceful sleep. The Ritz takes care of all the details too and the room included a sumptuous robe and comfy slippers. Talk about a home away from home!
At the Ritz, you feel completely safe and secure while in the hotel. Security staff is visible and most charming and they aim to learn all the guest’s names. Another added advantage in my mind.
If you stay, you absolutely have to indulge in afternoon tea. Be prepared to book well in advance, when I was there, you needed to give them at least four week’s notice. I was lucky enough to get in because they had a last minute cancellation! The tea is served in the marvelous Palm Court room. You get a choice of an amazing variety of teas, fancy sandwiches, delicious fresh baked scones, jam, clotted cream and of course scrumptious pastries! It was one of the highlights of my trip.
There are three dining options on site, The Ritz Restaurant, The Palm Court, and The Rivoli Bar. The Ritz Restaurant is the fancy option and they even have a traditional dinner and dance on Friday and Saturday nights. While I didn’t dine there, I understand it is considered one of the world’s best places to dine. The Palm Court as mentioned holds the afternoon tea and The Rivoli Bar is an art deco bar that is fantastic! We really enjoyed a light snack and drinks in this intimate setting.
If you ever get the opportunity to visit The Ritz London, I hope you snap it up. It is an amazing hotel offering elegance, luxury and unparalleled service. I can’t wait to go back!
