Free Things to Do in Paris -- It Can Be Done

I just came back from my second trip to Paris.  A friend of mine who is a struggling student is planning a trip there herself and she asked me if there were any free things to do in the ‘city of lights’.

When I thought about it, I realized that there are some really great free activities in Paris.  I jotted them down for her and thought you might appreciate them too!

Some of the best things in life really are free!

  • Discover why Paris is called the ‘city of light’ by strolling after dark.  Paris is aglow in lights with the Eiffel Tower being the crowning glory festooned with over 800 strings of astounding white lights.  If you arrive on the hour, you can watch its 20,000 individual bulbs glisten in a fascinating 10 minute display!
  • Entrance to the Parc de la Villette at the edge of the Paris suburbs is free.  With over 86 acres, you can browse the street art, listen to the free music, and in the summer they even show free movies.
  • Be sure to visit some of the amazing museums while in Paris, many of them are actually free!  Check out Musee Carnavalet, Musee Cognacq-Jay or Musee Fragonard all without opening up your wallet.  If you want to visit the Louvre, it opens it doors for free to everyone one Sunday a month.
  • Visit the Paris beach located onto a bank of the Seine during July and August.  It’s loads of fun and full of people having a great time.
  • Go see some of Paris’ great cathedrals where it doesn’t cost anything to enter most of them.  Notre Dame offers free Sunday afternoon organ recitals as well as English language tours three times weekly.

So, get out your French – English dictionary and start planning your own trip to amazing and captivating Paris!
